Floats play an important role in fishing. They work as alarms and alert the fisherman about the bite. Some of them help in casting the line to the required distance. This type of fishing equipment is selected in accordance with specific fishing conditions.
Types of floats for fishing – classification with photo
Of the many floats, five varieties are distinguished:
- Amateur . These products differ in different shapes and structures, high carrying capacity and one attachment point at the bottom. The disadvantage is a slight sensitivity to weak bites. They are used in stagnant water and on currents.
- Sports floats with a low center of gravity, great bite sensitivity and stability in water. They have several points of attachment to the equipment. Most often used in calm waters with a slow flow.
- Bologna – made of lightweight material (cork, chicken feathers), are used primarily to signal a bite.
- Match floats are special bite alarms, with one attachment point, with a weight that is poured into the lower part of the wagler (keel), or screwed into the thread.
- Flat floats with heavy rigging, used in strong currents. Some experience is required.
How to choose the right floats
Classic float models consist of the following elements:
- Antenna, which must always be on the surface of the water.
- A keel that ensures the stability of the signaling device.
- Bodies with a loop for passing the line. The load capacity of the model depends on it.
Product strength
This parameter specifies how the float will withstand violent flow. So that he simply does not break under the pressure of water.
Load sensitivity
It is necessary to be able to adjust it to the fisherman himself so that the float does not dangle in the water and does not frighten the fish.
The float is selected according to the fishing conditions
For fishing in stagnant water of ponds and backwaters, as well as in weak currents, light sports models with a short keel, an extended body and a thin plastic antenna are used. For fishing on the current, spherical models are used, with a long keel and a hollow antenna. Such alarms are more resistant to the flow, more sensitive to bites. The hollow antenna prevents the product from submerging deeply under water. The long keel keeps the float upright, even in fast currents.
