At one time, the Daiwa Ninja reels, having barely appeared on the fishing market, made a revolution. The price / quality ratio was so attractive that forgetting about the Revros and Excellers, the anglers rushed to buy new Ninja. The unusual design coupled with soul-pleasing performance made the Ninja a leader in the budget segment for a while.
Features of the Daiva Ninja LT series reels
But nothing lasts forever under the moon. Daiwa does not stand still. In 2018, users were introduced to a new series of LT reels – Light & Tough, which means “light and durable”, although even before that hardly anyone could say that diving reels are heavy and crumble in their hands.
Daiva’s company has a “fix idea” – to bring the dimensions of their coils closer to those of their main competitor – Shimano. Although it is not entirely clear why this is necessary. The new LT series almost succeeds in doing this. At the same time, all the main features that distinguish Daiwa reels have remained the same. Miniaturization was achieved thanks to the use of new materials and some design solutions.
Daiwa 18 Ninja LT reel specifications
So, what are the new features of the Daiwa 18 Ninja LT reel? There are three of them: a body made of DS5 material – a new composite material, a hollow rotor and perforations on the spool.
Important! The latter, of course, have a positive effect on reducing the mass of the reel, however, according to anglers, the ingress of moisture and dirt into the mechanism through the mentioned perforations forces more frequent prophylaxis of the product, and sometimes can significantly affect the fishing process.
Otherwise, the Daiwa 18 Ninja LT reel device uses technologies that are inherent in all products of this series, namely:
- durable main pair – Tough digigear;
- backstop, which works instantly and does not have the slightest backlash – Infinite Anti-Reverse;
- a brake system that allows you to fine-tune the front clutch nut and be sure of its power, since the load on it reaches 10 kg;
- the mechanism of cross winding of the line – Cross Wrap, which is especially important when using a braided line; The mechanism of the cross winding of the fishing line allows you to perfectly lay the braid [/ caption]
- freely rotating line guide roller – Twist Buster II; The line guide is powerful and reliable [/ caption]
- aluminum spool made on a CNC machine;
- handle made of aluminum, made so that the angler is comfortable to rotate it; The handle is lightweight and strong [/ caption]
- 4 bearings in the coil mechanism.
Attention! A few words about the bow. Ninja coils are not hollow like most Daiva products. Despite the apparent fragility, one should not fear for its reliability.

Daiwa 18 Ninja LT reel modifications
There are currently three modifications of the Daiwa 18 Ninja LT 2500 reel on sale:
- the actual model with this name;
- Daiwa 18 Ninja LT 2500-XH;
- Daiwa 18 Ninja LT 2500D.
The first two modifications have a weight of 239 grams (according to other sources 243 grams), which can be considered quite a decent parameter for medium-light coils. The base model has a 5.3: 1 gear ratio, like most dive reels, which are not designed for special tasks. In one turn, 75 cm of line is wound on the spool. The spool capacity is 150 meters of line with a diameter of 0.2 mm or 200 meters of braid with a thickness of 0.1 mm. The Daiwa 18 Ninja LT-XH has a gear ratio of 6.2: 1. This modification is more suitable for fans of jig fishing, as well as fans of fishing with match tackle. The abbreviation XH means that the reel is equipped with a long casting spool. There is practically no data about the latest modification of the Daiwa 18 Ninja LT 2500D, except that it costs a little more.
Advantages and disadvantages of the Daiwa 18 Ninja LT 2500 reel
The advantages of the coil include the following:
- ease;
- strength;
- reliability;
- smooth running;
- sufficient power;
- pleasing to the eye design;
- versatility;
- low cost.
There are practically no drawbacks to the reel, except for the lack of a spare spool. But all reels of this class also lack spare spools, because their inclusion in the package would inevitably increase the cost. The
spool can be purchased separately [/ caption]
Fishermen’s reviews
There are practically no negative reviews about the Daiwa 18 Ninja LT 2500 reel. Different anglers have different positive experiences. It all depends on what kind of fishing the user prefers. So, lovers of fishing with wobblers with jerk wiring, first of all, note that when casting, the reel does not drop its loops. Sometimes dropping one loop can ruin the whole fishing and lead to the fact that you have to leave the pond. It is extremely difficult to untangle a “beard” made of braid, and if entanglement occurs in the middle of the line, then the ball has to be cut off, and further fishing becomes impossible due to the lack of braid on the spool.
Healthy! If the loop has been dropped, you should not pull the “beard” off the spool and then try to untangle it. It is necessary to relax the reel friction as much as possible and release the cord through the line guide. This often helps.
For twitching enthusiasts, it is also important how the backstop works. If there is even a small kickback, it is difficult to get it right. Those anglers who fish with traditional turntables and oscillators love the smooth running of the reel and the fact that the speed of the bait can be easily controlled. This is not possible with any coil. Review of the Daiwa 18 Ninja LT reel from Alexey Shanin: https://youtu.be/QDABssIuaQA Fishermen who practice jig fishing, first of all, note the smooth operation of the reel and the flawless operation of the backstop. Also for them, as, indeed, for others, the subtlety of the clutch adjustment is important. A properly tuned frikitson not only helps when playing prey, but also acts as a damper when striking, partially absorbing the inextensibility of the line.
All anglers note that long casting is not a problem with this reel. Although the casting distance largely depends on the angler himself, more precisely, on what distance he leaves between the cord (fishing line) wound on the spool and the edge of the spool rim, the smoothness of this rim also plays an important role. On the Daiwa 18 Ninja LT 2500 reels, the rim finish is beyond praise. All in all, the new LT series of diving reels are a hit with many anglers and the LT 2500 is no exception.
