Small numbers of turntables are widely used for hunting and for peaceful fish – roach, rudd, sabrefish, podust and even tench and crucian carp. Depending on the conditions, the spinner can be used as a scout in an unfamiliar body of water, as the main bait in the right place and at the right time, or as one of the tools, among others, in difficult conditions in the bite. But even a pike, the main trophy of a spinning angler, despite its seeming greed, will not covet every spinner and not in all situations. We will share our personal proven experience – which turntables to choose for pike, what to look for in general when choosing a spinning spoon, how to choose the size, color,the shape and type of the spinner, depending on all the attendant factors when catching a striped beauty.

What to look for when choosing a spinner: a short but important educational program

We classify spinners as follows (we will further build on these factors when describing and choosing spinners suitable for pike fishing):

1. The quality of the materials used and the fit of all parts . Relatively speaking, there are three types of quality:
   1. China . Cheap and very angry. The problem is not even that there are no quality Chinese spinners. And the fact that all Chinese spinners are different. That is, even supposedly identical Chinese spinners are not equally catchy. Having accidentally hit a catchy “Chinese”, there are no guarantees to find the same one. With turntables this is especially true as they are made up of many components.
   2. Turntables from trusted manufacturers (Pantun 21, Meps, DAM, Blue Fox, Muran, Smith and others.) Spinners from these manufacturers work equally well (or badly) from one copy to another. This is the basis of a set of spinning lures for catching toothy lures.

2. The size of the spinner . According to the classification of Meps from 000 to 5 in ascending order of weight. For pike fishing, turntable numbers 1+ and above are most often used, these are turntables weighing 8-12 grams and above. There are exceptions, more on that below. 3. Petal shape . According to the Meps classification:
   1. Long (Aglia Longue) . Spoon with the shape of a willow petal. The least stubborn lure, requires the most active wiring of all spinners. Angle of rotation about 30º Suitable for rivers, for leading against and across the current, for collecting active fish at medium and high speed in stagnant waters.
   2. Aglia (wide, stubborn petal) . The rotation angle is about 60º. Suitable for fishing in stagnant bodies of water, for fishing in the upper layers of the water column at a minimum retrieval speed, for up-stream demolition fishing on rivers.
   3. Comet (Comet, Black Fury) . The rotation angle is about 45º. A universal intermediate option between Long and Aglia. Used in almost any environment.

4. Petal attachment . There are several options:
   1. The petal is attached to the shackle of the mount (Mepps Aglia Long, Cometa, Smith Niakis and others). The most common option. They start up quickly, but tend to twist the braids.
   2. Fastening the petal on the rotary axis (Mepps XD). They work worse, fail more often, but twist the cord less.
   3. Fastening the petal at the end of the axis . A rare variant, the author has not met successful turntables on this topic. Attaching the petal at the end of the axis is a rather rare option inherent in Chinese “crafts” [/ caption]
5. The number of petals . The most popular option is one petal, less often there are two petals (tandem) and three.
6. Petal material . Quality lures from well-known manufacturers are made of copper, brass, chrome and precious metals. Less often with such spraying. Chinese nouns can be steel or even from a tin – the service life and flight qualities are appropriate.
7. Petal color . Either it corresponds to the metal of manufacture, or the rotors are painted in certain colors. Most working Fluo, silver, copper, brass, black, tiger and other “chemical” colors.
8. Loading type:
   1. Front . The Mepps Lusox is one of the best front-loaded pike turntables available.
   2. The load on the rod (axial) , shifted closer to the front of the spoon (Smith Niakis), or in the center of the axis (Meps, Blufoks, Pantuns, etc.).

9. Hook type and location .
   1. Regular tee . The most standard option. It is good if the tee of a millimeter is 3-5 mm wider than the petal – for high-quality fish notching, but at the same time it will not cling to underwater obstacles once again. Also, the tee should not be too far from the petal along the axis – so that the anchor does not overlap parts of the rig when casting and wiring.
   2. Unary . A rarer option. It is used in non-hooks. Also installed when fishing hard areas, this minimizes the risk of snagging. It is rarely used in pike turntables.
   3. The hook is distant from the body of the spoon .
10. With or without additional equipment, no hooks . Turntables can be retrofitted with twisters, krakozyabras, small vibro-tails, flies, beads, cambric, etc. Most often this is done as an additional provocateur for the predator’s grip. You can turn the turntables into non-hooks if necessary.
11. Price :
    1. Cheap , poor quality almost always. China and other no-names.
    2. Average price range . Meps, Bluefox, Pantun, Bluefox, Dam. Most preferred for price / quality.
