Yauza – what is this reservoir, where is
The Yauzskoe reservoir is an artificial reservoir, which was created on the river of the same name. Located in the Gagarin district of the Smolensk region. The average depth of the reservoir does not exceed 4 m, although there are areas where it reaches 25 m. Design work on construction began in 1957, but the reservoir was put into operation only in 1977, and a year later it was filled with water. The reservoir was formed as a result of the construction of a dam, the length of which is about 900 m. The reservoir has two large branches. The first one runs from the village of Karmanovo to the Lokni River; its length is 15 km. The second one starts in the same place, but goes along the Yauza River, its length is 20 km. The total length of the coastline is 210 km, it has many bays. Yauza on the online fishing map:

Driving directions to the Yauzskoe reservoir from Moscow:
What kind of fish is found
The water area is 51 sq. m., and the depth in some places reaches 25 m, which creates favorable conditions for the reproduction and growth of fish. In addition, there is no current here, which is very good for pike, for example.
Important! Now the pike population has declined greatly due to poachers. Once this predator was found here in huge numbers.
Many anglers go there purposefully to catch their first trophies. For example, bream and bream are very common here, the weight of which can reach several kilograms.
Perch is a little less common, but large specimens (from 2 kg) force anglers to rush around the reservoir in search of this minke whale. Also found here:
- roach;
- zander;
- Pike;
- rudd;
- silver bream;
- bleak;
- carp;
- asp;
- burbot;
- burbot;
- bream;
- crucian carp.

What places are worth visiting
The regulars of the Yauzsky reservoir are ready to share the most interesting fishing spots. For example, the villages of Pudyshi and Kurdyuki are promising – pike perch is concentrated here in large quantities, which is usually caught for
mugs . Pudyshi village on the map:
A wide variety of fish species can be found in the floodplains of the Titovka, Savinka and Trupyanka rivers. Near Pogorely Gorodishche, very large roach bite. Near the village of Bolshiye Nosovy, you can always meet many spinning fishermen, because large perch (from 1 kg) bite here.
Fishing rules
Due to uncontrolled fishing, the population of many fish species began to decline significantly, in order to prevent this, fishing restrictions were introduced, which fall during the spawning period of specific species. So, it is forbidden to catch:
- Ide – from early April to May 10;
- Pike – all April;
- Asp – from April 10 to May 10;
- Cancers – from October to the end of June.
Also, from October to the end of May, it is forbidden to fish in the wintering pits specified in a special document.
From May 5 to June 15, it is forbidden to catch any fish with any tackle, except for float and bottom fishing rods, provided they are equipped with no more than 2 hooks.

Important! There are also restrictions on the size of the caught fish throughout the year – it is forbidden to catch pike perch, asp and burbot less than 40 cm, catfish less than 90 cm, bream less than 25 cm, carp less than 40 cm, chub less than 20 cm, crayfish less than 10 cm.
In search of fish on the Yauzsky reservoir
The success of fishing depends on the knowledge of the habitats and habits of a particular fish, otherwise fishing is a continuous lottery.
Perch
Small fish are also found near the coast, but large perches prefer deeper and more “interesting” areas – they are often found in places of elevation differences. In spring and summer, minke whales are successfully caught using
jig lures , in autumn there is a chance to catch perch with small wobblers. Very interesting places in terms of fish search are deep encircled parts of the reservoir. In winter, perch is actively used on
balance beams and
ratlins .
Roach
This is one of the most widespread species in this reservoir and a favorite object of fishing for fishermen. In spring, when the sun warms up a little, roach is found in shallow water. During this period, it is successfully caught using float rods. Best bait:
Worm ,
maggots . There are no special requirements for the tackle – a rod up to 4 m with any reel, a line up to 0.1 mm. No leash required, hook # 10. In summer, the roach moves away from the heat further to the depths. Now it can be successfully caught in the morning and evening, as well as during the night. For fishing from the shore, use a
feeder with a length of 7 m, from a boat – a feeder or float up to 4 m. The rest of the tackle is the same, only the bait changes – now it should be vegetable bait.
In autumn, fishing rules are similar to spring ones, but in winter the situation changes. You can count on a good bite two weeks after the freeze-up. During this period, roach is caught using jigs, the best bait is
bloodworms .
Bream on the Yauzsky reservoir
Active biting of this fish begins in June. For catching bream, use a feeder or donka, from 4 m in length. Regarding bait, it is better to use store formulations. Classic tackle – 0.2 mm line, leash slightly thinner than the main line – 0.14 mm, hook No. 5-7. In summer, bream is active throughout the night, good bait – worm,
peas ,
dough .
Excellent peas are obtained in a double boiler [/ caption]
Important! For catching bream in the dark, an excellent option would be to use a swing rod with a luminous float.
At the beginning of autumn, the summer fishing rules are in effect, but from October it is necessary to switch to winter tactics. Now you should look for bream at a depth of 12 m. Tackle: float or “rocker”. Groundbait should include more animal products.

Local fishermen say that bream is very good at catching near the village of Kurdyuki. Here you can find fish from 2 kg.
Fishing for pike on the Yauza
In summer, this predator usually stays close to the coast. It is to be found in the bays. Tackle ” mugs ” is very catchy in summer
. Small rudd, roach and even perches are used as bait.
Mug installation [/ caption] By the end of summer, the bays are very overgrown, so it makes sense
to switch to spinning , which allows you to accurately throw the bait into the grass “windows”. The tackle must be strong, because here, even in summer, you can catch quite large pike. Best baits: poppers, unloaded rubber, spoons.

Important! It is desirable that the bait type were ”
nezatseplyayka “, otherwise it will be difficult oblavlivat thickets.
Already in mid-September, the pike moves to a depth, at this time jig lures and deep diving wobblers are relevant. In winter, vents are a priority, which are installed at the exits from the bays.
Attention! One of the best places for pike fishing is near the Petushki village.
Petushki village on the map:
Bleak
Catching this fish is a very reckless and exciting activity. The glue is active during the entire open water period. For fishing, they usually use light float rods up to 5 meters long. The weight of the float should not exceed 1 g, otherwise it will be very difficult to notice the bite. The favorite delicacy of bleak is maggot, and this bait remains relevant in spring, summer and autumn. It is almost impossible to catch bleak without bait. Any formulation will do, the main thing is that the bait should contain large quantities of powdered milk. It will create a small cloudy cloud in the water that will hold the fish in place.
In winter, you cannot count on a good catch – this fish is caught from the ice only in March. For angling, jigs are used with bait from bloodworms, maggot or bacon. You can’t do without bait in winter either.
Rudd
It is caught mainly during the whole season of open water with float tackle, which is regulated so that the bait is practically at the surface of the water. The best bait is maggot. With the arrival of autumn, the rudd goes to a depth, now the feeder can be effectively used. In winter, the activity of this fish is practically absent, but there are rare bursts of activity – then you can fish for rudd with the help of a
jig reel .
Catching pike perch on the Yauzsky reservoir
It is for this fish that anglers often go. Zander is also active during the summer, but small fish usually bite at this time of year. Trophy pike perch (from 2 kg), which is of interest to many, is caught towards the end of September. To catch it, a spinning rod with a fast action and a test of up to 50 grams is used. Bright vibrotails or foam rubber are chosen as bait.
Winter Yauzsky pike perch [/ caption] In winter, the activity of pike perch on the Yauzsky reservoir practically does not change. You should look for it in the deepest parts of the reservoir, using ratlin or balance weights as bait. Free fishing
You can go fishing on the Yauzsky reservoir for free as a “savage”. Such a vacation is more interesting, but it also has a number of nuances. Firstly, you need to take care of an overnight stay, sleeping in the open air will not work without anything – you need at least a sleeping bag or a tent. Secondly, transport is required, since the length of the coastline is impressive. You need to have a supply of tackle with you, because the taste preferences of the fish can change several times throughout the day. You also need a supply of food and water, so as not to spend several hours to get to the nearest settlement.
Important! Going to fish “savage”, you need to learn the habits of fish at one time or another of the year. You can also use an echo sounder to understand the terrain or to find schools of fish.

Reviews about fishing on the Yauzsky reservoir
Eugene went fishing back in November on the first ice, having with him winter rods and girders. He used commercial bait for roach. Eugene made 12 holes, of which he fed 7, and put holes on the remaining 5. The result is impressive: 25 bastards were caught. Andrey went with a group of friends to the reservoir in August. He chose a spinning rod as a tackle, and a worm as a bait. He fished with a jig from a boat in snags in Pudyshi. The catch cannot be called outstanding: a large perch, a pike of about 3 kg and a few podleschik, but the process itself was interesting.
Vladimir fished in March, which here looks more like February in terms of its weather conditions. He fished with a jig, used a mixture of bloodworms, semolina and crackers as bait – he soaked the mixture with water, rolled it into small balls and threw it into the holes. As a result: about 5 kg of different fish. Winter fishing with an overnight stay at the Yauzskoye reservoir – video report: https://youtu.be/jrJ0584vc0g There are a lot of fish on the Yauzskoye reservoir, so it’s difficult even for a beginner to stay without a catch. Experienced anglers can count on trophy specimens. But even without fishing, the Yauzsky reservoir is a great place to spend time with family or friends.
