Daiwa Caldia reels have appeared on the fishing market for a long time. In their mid-range price segment, they competed with Shimano Biomaster reels. The novelty of Caldium was that the heavy plastic previously used in the manufacture of the coil body gave way to a lighter metal. Caldia had no direct predecessor. The reel of the already forgotten Daiwa Emblem can be considered as such.

Daiwa (02) Caldia 2500
This is how the first Caldias in the catalogs were called. Distinctive features, thanks to which they could not be confused with other coils, were considered a hollow bow and the presence of four bearings. The reels were produced in sizes 2000, 2500, 3000 and 4000. Even the classic size 2500 was considered sufficient for fishing with medium tackle. for medium-heavy jig and stubborn wobblers. In addition to the series (02) itself, a simplified version was produced called Freams and Capricorn and Advantage not intended for the Japanese markets.
Interesting to know! Daiwa Caldia reels were and are still being produced in Japan, unlike more budget models.
Daiwa Caldia 2500 Kix aka Kyxoid
The advent of the Kicks ushered in a new era for diving reel lovers. All products under this name were manufactured using the Real Four technology, i.e. four types of innovations developed by Daiva were used in the design. In addition to Caldia, the family of “Kyxoids”, as they were popularly called, included several more coils, differing in different parameters. A product such as the Daiwa Sol should be mentioned. Apart from some technical innovations, such as, for example, a metal rotor, only this reel had a spare spool included. The classic Daiwa Caldia 2500 Kix had the following characteristics:
- forest capacity – 170 meters of line with a diameter of 0.25 mm;
- gear ratio – 4.7: 1;
- the length of the line wound in one turn of the handle – 67-70;
- weight – 260 grams.
The coil mechanism had 5 ball bearings and one roller bearing. The lineup of the Kiks series was expanded to 10 sizes and modifications: 1500, 2000, 2004, 2004W, 2500, 2506, 2506W, 3000, 3500 and 4000. The last number in the reel size designation meant the presence of a spool with a low line capacity. The letter W means that the handle is double, like that of Stradik. The cost of the Daiwa Caldia 2500 Kix reels was about 6-7 thousand rubles. (in prices of 2008-2010).

Daiwa (09) Caldia 2500
The new reel has not become as popular as its predecessor. Apart from the white body and the added sixth bearing, this reel had no innovations. Same weight, same gear ratio. As the saying goes, she “did not go to the people”. Many anglers continued to use the good old Kix, waiting for something fundamentally new to appear.
Interesting fact! In addition to the many advantages of the Daiwa Caldia 2500 Kix reels, many anglers have noted their amazing survivability. You can still find a spinning player using the classic Kix, who underwent only preventive maintenance.

Daiwa Caldia SHA 2500
A coil that arrived in stores in 2011. Quite an expensive model, the cost of which has increased compared to the base models due to the increase in the number of bearings to 8 and the transformation of the coil into a faster one with a gear ratio of 6: 1. Coil weight is reduced by 15 grams compared to the base model.
Daiwa Caldia LT 2500
We had to wait a long time. Finally, in 2018, Daiva introduced reels to the amazed fishing community, designed and manufactured in accordance with the revolutionary LT technology – Light & Tough, which translates as “light and durable”. Literally everything has changed. Suffice it to say that the weight of the Daiwa Caldia LT 2500 is only 190 grams, while the previous Caldias weighed 260 grams. It makes sense to dwell in more detail on the innovations that made the new coils so perfect. The DAIWA 18 Caldia LT 2500 spinning reel (number 18 indicates the year the product appeared on the market) has the following characteristics:
- 6 ball bearings and 1 roller bearing;
- gear ratio – 5.3: 1;
- the length of the line wound on the spool in one turn of the handle – 75 cm;
- friction clutch load – 10 kg;
- weight – 190 grams.
As you can see from the above data, the load on the clutch is 10 kg, which indicates the power of the coil. For the previous Caldias, this figure was 7 kg.
The following technologies have helped to make the new reel lighter and more powerful:
- body made of new composite material Zaion;
- Magsealed casing protection, which creates a barrier against dirt and water, thanks to the use of ferromagnetic oil;
- Tough Digigear gear – more powerful and reliable than previous Caldia;
- hollow rotor Air Rotor;
- CNC-machined aluminum perforated spool Air Spool;
- Twist Buster II, which prevents the line from twisting;
- the hollow bow of the Air Bail – the trademark of Daiva;
- Infinite Anti-Revers instantly triggered backstop;
- front ATD clutch, allowing fine-tuning of line deflection.
DAIWA 18 Caldia LT 2500 received many new solutions [/ caption] The range of Daiwa Caldia LT reels has been expanded even more. It presents a line from thousanders for ultralight lovers to monsters in size 6000, with which you can safely go on sea fishing. Coils are still being made in the Land of the Rising Sun. In retail, prices for the Daiwa Caldia LT 2500 start at 18,000 rubles. It seems to be expensive, but if we consider where the ruble has slipped over these 10-12 years, then we can say that the real value, if it has increased, is quite a bit. Daiwa 21 Caldia FC LT
Finally, I should say a little about the new product – the Daiwa 21 Caldia FC LT reel. So far, there are not many fishermen in Russia who have bought this product, so there are almost no reviews. With the same characteristics as the base model, the cost of the new item is lower by about 2 thousand rubles, which is good news.
Fishermen’s reviews
Even the old Caldias were rarely negative. There were some shortcomings, for example, a slight play in the handle. Everyone says and writes only good things about the LT series. Most of all, users are pleased with the following:
- durability – the coils were dropped on solid ground without much damage to their condition;
- reliability – small baths and contact with dirt did not cause significant harm to the coils;
- smooth running is beyond praise;
- perfect cord winding;
- the clutch can be adjusted with jewelry precision;
- when fishing with wobblers by jerking wiring, the reel does not drop the loops;
- great product design.
